Description: The expansion of patient data exchange through inter-operability allows providers to construct comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR). These EMRs provide access to patient information irrespective of the point of care or the source of the data. With this multi-faceted transfer of data comes a need for a governance model to address the handling of the patient information. During this session, experts in privacy, security and contracting will attempt to answer the following questions: * Who is liable for data errors recorded in electronic medical records, and what role do vendors and providers play? * What principles should be followed to correct any errors, and can vendor indemnity be "pierced"? * What can we expect from the legal system in the area of errors in patient data exchange?
